There are plenty of free audio editing programs out there for you to try out. Here’s a list of 5 of our favorite free audio editing programs:Download Your Free Production Music Song
Audacity is, without a doubt, the most popular of all of the free audio editing software out there. It is a great program because it is easy to install, easy to use and does not take up a lot of space on your computer. It is available for both Mac and PC and will definitely be a great program to add to your editing toolbox.
2. Power Sound Editor
Power Sound Editor Free is a program that is great for people who are a little more visual. The layout is very easy to navigate and it has the ability to add useful effects like reverb, echo, chorus and others. Perhaps the best thing about this program, though, is that it is very easy to upload finished projects to the web. This is great if you are using it to put together a podcast!
Wavosaur is a little more complex than the previous two programs, but for that reason many people argue that it is more valuable. It allows you do do more analyzing and has complex features such as pitch shift and vocal removal.
Many editors also say that is is easier to do multi-track editing in Wavosaur compared to Audacity. If you’re a little more advanced when it comes to audio editing, this may be the free program for you.
4. Music Editor Free
Music Editor Free (MEF) is another great free audio editor. It has many of the same features as Power Sound Editor. It also includes its own CD ripper/Burner. You can record audio straight into the program, or import various audio files. The interface is beginner friendly, though not quite as flashy as Power Sound Editor. It has won a few awards in the tech world, so you know it’s going to be a solid piece of software.
5. Garage Band
I know some may argue that this isn’t exactly “free”, but since it comes standard on all Macs, I think it will fit. Garage Band is definitely not the most professional program out there, but for the hobbyist, this audio editor is really fun to use. It includes all types of loops and tracks for you to put together to create your own production music. It works really well with iTunes so you can import your music library into Garage Band and then export your finished projects straight into your iTunes. If you’re a Mac user, I recommend playing around with this program on a rainy day. It’s just fun!
